What Makes a Chew Long-Lasting?
The density and texture of the protein determines how long a chew lasts. Tough, fibrous proteins like beef pizzle and collagen take longer to break down than soft, airy treats like lamb lung. The thicker and denser the chew, the longer it lasts.
Beef Pizzle: The Gold Standard
Beef pizzle (also called bully sticks) is the most popular long-lasting chew for good reason. It's single-ingredient, digestible, and keeps most dogs occupied for 20–45 minutes depending on size and chewing style. Our Beef Pizzle is odor-free.
Collagen Sticks: Longer and Functional
Collagen sticks last even longer than pizzle for most dogs, and they deliver a functional benefit: natural collagen for joint support, skin health, and coat quality. They're a great option for older dogs or breeds prone to joint issues.
Rawhide: Why We Don't Recommend It
Rawhide is heavily processed, often treated with chemicals, and can be a choking hazard. It's not digestible in the same way natural protein chews are, and it offers little nutritional value. We don't carry it, and we don't recommend it.
Supervision Always
Even the safest chew should be given under supervision, especially for aggressive chewers. Remove the chew when it gets small enough to swallow whole. And always make sure your dog has access to fresh water while chewing.
